You can create your click tracker directly via the graphic editor or via the back-office.
Click tracking creation
You can create your tracker from any variation, it will appear on all of your experiment’s variarions. Once you have created your event tracker, you can use it in other tests as well.
Create a new click tracking from the graphic editor
To set up a click tracking, launch the Kameleoon editor on the webpage of your choice.
Select the element for which you want to track clicks. On the tool panel, the third tab “Tracking” enables you to create a click tracker.
Type in the name you want to give to your event tracker, then click on “Track this element”. The tracking is automatically associated with the element. You can now find it in the test finalizer. The tracking will be available for all your tests.
Create a new click tracking from the back-office
To set up a click tracking from the back-office and then associate it with an experiment, scroll down the “KPIs” menu and click on “Goals”.
At the top right of the page that opens, click on the “New goal” button.
A creation pop-in appears. Choose the website you want to associate the tracking to and select the type “Click tracking” in the drop-down menu.
Then name your tracking and fill in the URL of the page of your website in order to load a preview. This preview allows you to indicate the location of the click tracking.
Note: If your website is protected from being shown in an iframe (the X-Frame-Options header is used in the server settings), your URL won’t be displayed in this popin and you won’t be able to add click tracking. You must change your server settings and add an exception for the kameleoon.com domain and subdomains.
You can also indicate the location via a CSS selector.
Advanced settings allow you, if necessary, to send the tracking data to one or more third party tool(s), to display the goal only for certain experiments, or to use it for machine learning. Validate your advanced options to apply them to click tracking.
Once these elements are set up, you can create your click tracking and use it as a goal in your experiments!
Associate an existing click tracking
You can associate an existing click tracking to other elements. It can be useful if, for instance, you have two “Download” buttons on the same page and you would like to track the total amount of clicks on these buttons.
To do so, search the existing click tracking in the event tracker name field
This field enables you to name a click tracking but is also a live search bar
Associate several click trackings with an element
You can also associate several click trackings to one single element, either by creating a new click tracking or by associating an existing click tracking with the element.
In our example with two “Download” buttons on the same page, you can track both buttons together, but also each independently.
Here, the “Download button” click tracking is associated to two elements (the two “Download” buttons), whereas the “Download button with logo” is only associated to one element.
Edit or delete a click tracking
Once a click tracking is created, you can edit it at any moment. To do so, go to “Associated to the element” where you will find the list of the click trackings associated to the selected element and place your cursor above the element you want to edit.
Edit the click tracking
Click on the pencil icon to edit the tracking: A new pop-in will appear, enabling you to edit the click tracking settings.
In this pop-in, you will be able to edit the name, and add a description, a category or an action.
